Letter: Actions at convention alienated Ron Paul supporters

We attended the Republican GOP convention to elect national delegates where a nominating committee (Linda Vaughey, John Sonju, Gary Perry, Chuck Denowh, Betti Hill) appointed by Erik Iverson premeditated their own list of McCain delegates.

Before the convention, the central committee queried who we supported for president, a ploy to identify the Ron Paul Republicans. So, we decided to nominate ourselves from the floor. They then discriminated against us by printing the McCain names on one side of the ballot, and the Ron Paul names on the other!

When we objected, Chairman Rick Hill denied the motion “out of order,” but we failed to respond quickly enough to get a floor vote. Then, we were ordered up to the microphone to introduce ourselves. The “anointed” ones proudly marched up their special aisle, humiliating us further.

Ironically, Iverson told the press that, “Everything was respectful,” but it really wasn’t. In a “winner take all” state, Paul placed second above McCain, and we deserved to go, regardless. Because with Mitt Romney gone, Montana’s GOP rules stated that delegates can now “vote for the candidate of their choice.” McCain has the nomination, so eradicating us was a stupid, needless move and just alienated us further.

Finally, if Iverson truly wanted “diversity” and understanding, why did he physically segregate us from them, both on the microphone and on the ballot? What can we say? Who feels like giving their time and money to these people now?
