The Mavs downed Las Vegas 11-6 and then got a combined no-hitter from Matt McMann and Drew Lytle in an 8-0 win over West Warwick, R.I. The wins moved the Mavs to 3-3 in the tournament, 37-16 overall.
The Mavs face Coon Rapids, the Minnesota state high school champion, on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Ben Roberts smashed a two-run homer in the Mavericks' three-run fourth inning. Sean Dwyer and Sam Sopko also drove in two runs apiece.
The Mavs wrapped up the no-hitter in their second game in five innings due to the tournament's eight-run margin rule.
McMann pitched the first two frames before leaving in the third with a sore knee. He walked three and struck out one. Lytle finished up to earn the win.
Taylor King drove in two and Brendan Brown and Kendal Maier each rapped a double.
“King played awfully well at shortstop and Brown played well defensively at third,” Missoula manager Brent Hathaway said.
The two infielders on the left side had five assists apiece, accouting for two-thirds of the outs in the game.
The Mavericks had 16 stolen bases on the day, six by King, who is now 12 thefts away from the single-season record set by Chris Gillette in 1994.
