LEGION ROUNDUP: Class A Mavs sweep

BOZEMAN - The Class A Missoula Mavericks took a pair of games off Bozeman on Wednesday, in what they hope turns out to be a positive tune-up before this weekend's invitational tournament.

Pitcher Shawn McArthur scattered five hits in the opener as the Mavs cruised to a 12-2 victory in a game shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule.

Jordan Schaffer finished 2-for-3 for Missoula including a 2-run double. Riley King was perfect at 2-for-2 with an RBI single and three runs scored.

Brody Miller slapped two hits for Bozeman.

McArthur improved to 5-2 on the season.

In game two, it was again all Mavs as the Missoula squad scored the 14-7 win.

C.J.Wulf went five innings for the Mavs, upping his record to 2-2.

Anthony Maes ended 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Two of those came on a double in the first inning. David Resner also smacked a double and finished with four RBIs, while Josh Seeberger was 2-for-3.

Missoula improved its season record to 26-20 with the pair of Ws. Next up, the Mavs return home for their Class A invitational tournament, which begins Friday.

Bitterroot Bucs sweep Deer Lodge

At Deer Lodge, the Bucs picked up both sides of a doubleheader against the Wranglers.

Jeremy Stevens was 3-for-4 with three RBIs to pace Bitterroot to the early 5-2 win. Xavier Morigeau limited Deer Lodge to just five hits and a pair of runs to take the win from the mound.

Blake Niederklein and Dean Despain each had a pair of hits to lead the Wranglers in the early action.

Dominic Goble was 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Bucs to a 13-8 win in the nightcap, while Luke Topp finished off the final five frames from the mound to take the win.

Niederklein once again led the way for Deer Lodge with a homer and four RBIs.
