LEGION ROUNDUP: Late rally pushes Dillon past Class A Mavs at invitational
By the Missoulian

The host team took one on the chin in the late game of Friday's first day of action at the Class A Missoula Mavericks Invitational tournament at Lindborg-Cregg Field.

Zach McRae's two-run single capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh as the Dillon Cubs pulled out a 4-3 victory over the Mavs.

Missoula (26-21) took a two-run lead into the final frame after scoring a pair in the fourth and another in the sixth on a Stuart Breckenridge RBI single.

But the Cubs cut their deficit to 3-2 on an Andy Peterson triple before a walk and a stolen base brought McRae to the plate with one out. He smacked his game-winner to the gap in right-center.

McRae got the win on the mound, going the distance and allowing one earned run on six hits and a walk while striking out six. At the plate he finished 2-for-4, while Peterson was 2-for-3.

Josh Seeberger singled twice and drove in a run for the Mavericks and Andrew Bewley went 2-for-3.

In tournament games earlier in the day, the Walla Walla, Wash., Bruins downed the Bitterroot Red Sox 9-8, the Bruins beat the Prairie Cardinals of Post Falls, Idaho 12-2 in six innings before the Great Falls A Stallions beat the Cardinals and Dillon defeated Great Falls by identical 9-0 scores.

The Mavs face Walla Walla at 5:15 p.m. prior to Missoula's 8 p.m. meeting with Great Falls.
