Opper: DEQ not in disarray

By SUSAN GALLAGHER of the Associated Press

HELENA - The director of the Department of Environmental Quality says some perceive it as an agency in disarray.

Director Richard Opper told a legislative committee on Monday that the perception is incorrect.

Opper says there are some difficulties in trying to get all of DEQ's work done with inadequate staffing levels in some units, but he says improvements are being made and more are planned.

Opper addressed the Environmental Quality Council in Helena as it considered auditor's reports on DEQ.
