Shay Oberg of Billings was named the best female athlete with a disability. Born without a left hand, she plays outfielder for Montana State-Billings.
Liz Ashworth Wallace of Florence and Central Washington softball teammate Mallory Holtman along with Western Oregon softball player Sarah Tucholsky were honored for the "best moment" in sports.
Central Washington lost the game 4-2, ending its chances of winning the conference and advancing to the playoffs.
Wallace graduated from Florence-Carlton High School in 2005.
Oberg, a Billings West graduate, played two seasons at Southwest Oregon Community College before joining the Yellowjackets last fall. Oberg batted .280 with three home runs, three doubles and 13 RBIs as a junior.
Oberg says she was in the rest room when she was announced as the winner of the ESPY.
"They said they were going to mail it to me," she said.
Oberg says she got to meet with Wallace and Holtman after the ceremony.
"We got a picture together," she said.
Golfer Tiger Woods was named the best male athlete of the year and best golfer while his 2008 U.S. Open win was voted the best championship performance. Former Tennessee basketball player and Los Angeles Sparks player Candace Parker was honored as the best female athlete of the year and the best female college athlete of the year.
