BILLINGS - A Miles City woman has pleaded no contest to deliberate homicide in the death last year of a 3-year-old boy.

Faith Nina Bigback Crow entered her plea Tuesday in District Court in Custer County in the November death of Carlos Canada.

County Attorney Wyatt Glade says he’ll ask a judge to sentence Crow to 40 years in prison.

Authorities say Crow is a relative of the boy and was caring for him following the death of his mother. The boy’s father is incarcerated in federal prison.

Canada died of a severe head injury. Doctors who treated the boy said they found injuries consistent with abuse, including bruises across his body.

Crow remains under house arrest. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 6.
