Erickson, who was Montana's all-around cowboy this year, sat third overall in steer wrestling after his 4.02 seconds was the best time of Wednesday's morning performance.
He followed that up with a 4.157 that evening, which netted him second place for that performance.
Stevenville's Mariah Morgan turned in the 13th best time so far in barrel racing, with a 17.535.
In girls' cutting, Allison Darrow of Hamilton was in a tie for 10th at 214. Columbus' Jesse Pichler was 22nd at 210, with Murphy Hirschy in a tie for 36th at 206.
Dillon cowgirl Hannah Sharon ranked ninth in breakaway roping with a 3.284, trailing Belgrade's Cadee Tew in third place with her 3.109.
Mariah Morgan of Stevensville was 13th in barrel racing, ending the first go with 17.535.
Competing in two events, Kalispell's Lexy Rianda was 36th in goat tying (9.981) and 49th in breakaway (5.92).
Charlo's Naomi Knight was in 69th place in pole bending.
So far, Roy's J.D. Harrell was the only Montana cowboy to record a score in bull riding, in 31st place with a score of 62.
Jeff Markette of Hamilton was 33rd in boys' cutting with a 205 and Duston Stephens of Corvallis was 75th at 189.
Montana sat 11th in the combined team. Twentieth in boys' competition and 8th in girls'.
The rodeo will run all week, with the championship performance scheduled for Saturday evening.
