HELENA - The Mavs needed to rally late on Wednesday to beat Helena but once they rallied, boy, did they ever.

Missoula trailed by eight runs after the sixth inning, but scored 22 in the final three frames - including a 13-run ninth - to take a 23-10 Class AA American Legion baseball win off the Senators.

Five different Mavs recorded extra base hits and eight Missoula players had one or more RBIs in a high-scoring game that saw the two teams combine to use 13 different pitchers.

Kendal Maier and Taylor King each ended with five RBIs for the Mavs. King finished 2-for-4 with a double and a triple. Maier was 3-for-5 with a double.

Cubby Pierre belted a home run for Missoula, while Sam Sopko was steady at 4-for-5.

Matt McMahon earned the win for the Mavs, while Nick Retz took the loss for the Senators.

Helena took an early lead by tallying three runs in each of the first two innings, forcing the Mavs into a 9-1 hole by the end of the sixth.

Missoula, though, rebounded for four runs in the seventh and then five more in the eighth, before blowing the lid off with their big final inning.

The Mavs recorded 23 hits and two errors. The Senators got their 10 runs on 10 hits with one fielding gaffe.

Austin Rue finished 4-for-5 for Helena, while Retz's lone hit was a home run.
