Montana Tech was picked second in the league, and Montana State-Northern was picked third. The Lights were followed by Rocky Mountain College, Montana Western and Eastern Oregon.
Only two schools received first-place votes in the poll - Carroll with five, and Montana Tech with one.
Carroll signs three golfers
HELENA (AP) - Carroll College has announced the signing of three golfers.
Coach Bennett MacIntyre said Meghan Innes of Craig, Colo., Matea DaRosa of Meridian, Idaho, and Ariana McElrath of Yakima, Wash., will play for the women's team this year.
Innes has led her team at Moffat County High School for the past three seasons. She is a four-time varsity golfer and three-time all-conference player. She took 16th place at the 4A state tournament this past season.
DaRosa was the most outstanding player on her team at Meridian High School in Idaho the past three seasons.
McElrath is a two-time district golf champion with two top-10 performances at the state B golf tournament.
Lewis-Clark tops volleyball coaches poll
BILLINGS (AP) - A preseason poll shows Frontier Conference volleyball coaches believe Lewis-Clark State College will win the league title for the 2008 season.
Lewis-Clark State is the defending Frontier Conference regular season, conference tournament and Region I tournament champion.
Westminster College was picked to finish second, followed by Montana Tech, the University of Great Falls, Rocky Mountain College, Carroll College, Montana Western and Montana State-Northern.
U14 hoops team takes second at tourney
The Montana Hoops U14 AAU basketball team took second in the National Youth Basketball Championship tournament recently.
After going 3-0 in pool play, the squad defeated Tulsa, Okla., 59-48 in the quarterfinals and Bakersfield, Calif., 57-56 in the semifinals. Montana Hoops then fell to Florida in the title game 50-41.
Montana Hoops, which finished the summer 15-1, featured DJ Reinhardt from Missoula in addition to athletes from Billings, Bozeman, Fairfield, Helena and Malta.
Outlaws fall in championship game
The Missoula Outlaws U13 baseball took second at the USSSA West Coast National tournament, falling in Sunday's title game 4-3 to the Woodinville, Wash., Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on an infield single. Andrew Sopko, Nathan Jewett and Tanner Rheinschmidt pitched for the Outlaws. Alder Sherrow led the Missoula bats, going 2-for-4, and Tres Cunningham added a triple.
