Coaches association honors MSU's Rudy; UM women's team honored

BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) _ Montana State pole vaulter Ellie Rudy has been named Indoor Field Events Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Rudy also earned a spot on the organization's Division I women's all-academic team. She was joined by teammates Kim Berg, Lena Suek, Kris Schaffer and Emily Tyrrell.

MSU's team GPA of 3.49 was fourth-highest in the nation, as ranked by the association.

Meanwhile, the University of Montana was one of 117 Division I women's teams honored for having a squad GPA of at least 3.0. Montana tied for 34th among the recognized teams.

Five UM athletes were named to the Division I women's all-academic team: Baily Cox, Loni Perkins-Judisch, Kara DeWalt, Jenna Haven and Courtney Kosovich.

UM athletes Chris Hicks and Lynn Reynolds were named to the men's all-academic team.
