Wyo. fire grows little
Posted on Aug. 7

By the Associated Press

CODY, Wyo. - A fire burning east of Yellowstone National Park grew little thanks to higher humidities.

The Gunbarrel fire has burned about 34,700 acres, or about 54 square miles, in the Shoshone National Forest.

With higher humidities expected again Thursday, fire managers are assessing whether to lift some evacuation orders.

The fire is being allowed to burn in wilderness while firefighters concentrate on protecting lodges and cabins along U.S. 14-16-20.

Traffic is still flowing on the highway between Cody and Yellowstone, although delays are possible. And campgrounds along the highway are open.

But the Goff, Elephant Head and Crossed Sabers lodges remain closed after being evacuated earlier this week.
