The Osprey jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first only to see the Owlz respond by scoring in every inning but the second in handing Missoula its fifth straight loss. The Birds dropped to 3-10 in the second half - tied with Helena for the worst record in the North Division - and 12-39 overall.
Orem rocked five Missoula pitchers for 18 hits. Roberto Lopez had four of those to go with three RBIs while Dwayne Bailey and Ivan Villaescusa had three safeties apiece. Ryan Groth had a homer and a triple and finished with five RBIs.
Osprey Daniel Schlereth allowed two hits and a walk in his one inning of work, but kept his ERA at 0.00 in his third outing of the season.
The Owlz salted the win away against Brett Moorhouse, who allowed four hits and six earned runs in one inning of work. He uncorked two wild pitches and hit a batter.
The Osprey scored their two runs in the first on a fielder's choice by Ryne White, which brought home Reynaldo Navarro, who had tripled. White came home on a double by Kyle Greene.
The Owlz (9-4, 34-17) scored three in the bottom half of the inning and were never headed.
The loss kept the Birds 0-for-Utah on their current seven-game road trip to the Beehive State after dropping three straight in Ogden. Missoula will send Trevor Harden (0-1) to the mound Monday in the second game of the four-game series.
