O's drop sixth straight
By the Missoulian

OREM, Utah - The Missoula Osprey were stung by the Beehive State again on Monday as the Orem Owlz beat the Birds 4-1 in a Pioneer League game at Brent Brown Ballpark.

The Owlz used three pitchers to combine on a four-hitter and deal Missoula its sixth straight loss, including five to Utah-based teams.

Left-hander Jeff Boshers picked up his second win of the season with a six-inning outing, where he allowed the Osprey just one run on three hits.

Teammates Steven Geltz and Jeremy Thorne allowed just one more single over the next three innings to secure things. Thorne earned his fourth save of the season.

Orem, the first-half champion in the Southern Division, improved to 10-4 in the second half, while the O's fell to 3-11 in the second half, 12-40 overall.

The six-game losing skid is Missoula's second this season, and next longest to the 10-gamer the O's had earlier this summer.

Owlz outfielder Donato Giovanatto went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a solo home run to pace the home team.

Jon Townsend was the only other Orem player to get multi-hits, going 2-for-3. Ryan Groth had an RBI double in the first to give the Owlz a 1-0 lead.

Missoula didn't have an extra-base hit against Boshers (2-0) and the others.

O's starter Trevor Harden was relieved in the sixth inning by Bayron Zepeda, who quickly gave up a solo shot to the first batter he faced - Giovanatto - to give Orem a 3-1 lead.

Missoula wasted a nice effort by Harden, who struck out 10 batters in five innings of work. It was his second straight start with at least 10 strikeouts.

Harden (0-2) gave up two runs on five hits before being shown the door.

The O's managed just one run in the top of the sixth when Ryne White singled in Alberto Diaz with Missoula's only run. That brought the Birds within one run, 2-1, but that's the closest they came.

Missoula, which has two more games with Orem on Tuesday and Wednesday, committed two fielding errors.

Notes: The Osprey face the Pioneer League's top pitcher on Tuesday, Jayson Miller, another lefty. Miller is 4-2 with 1.32 ERA. ... Monday's game lasted just 2 hours, 12 minutes.
