Posted on Aug. 20

VIRGINIA CITY - State wildlife officials have killed two mountain lions caught hanging around in Virginia City and Ennis.

A mountain lion that killed a domestic cat in Virginia City was shot on Aug. 12 as it hunkered in the bushes outside the Madison County attorney's office with the body of the 17-year-old cat.

Game warden Shane Brozovich says the decision to kill that cat was made to protect public safety.

On Tuesday, a young mountain lion that had been hanging out in Ennis was killed.

Sam Sheppard, warden captain with the Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks, shot the cat. He says both cats were about 2 years old, about the time their mother pushes them out on their own, and both showed little fear of people.
