'Things are going pretty good' on Townsend fire
Posted on Aug. 21

By the Associated Press

TOWNSEND - A 755-acre fire burning about 12 miles east of Townsend is now 36-percent contained.

And a spokesman for the Northern Rockies Incident Team says crews hope to have the Bear Gulch fire fully contained by Saturday.

Gary Hoshide (hoh-SHEE'-day) says the fire grew by just five acres on Wednesday; and as of Thursday morning, he says "Things are going pretty good."

The fire is being fought by 225 people, including one hot shot crew and five hand crews, along with two helicopters.

Hoshide says crews built lines along the east and west flanks of the fire Wednesday, and plan to continue working along those flanks Thursday.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. It was first reported about 2 p.m. Monday.
