Barrett sold to company in New York
By Pamela J. Podger of the Missoulian

Barrett Productions, a producer of outdoors, adventure and sports television programming in Missoula, was acquired for an undisclosed price Wednesday by InterMedia Outdoors Inc.

The New York-based InterMedia publishes 17 hunting, fishing and shooting magazines and produces 11 television shows. The firm acquired the Sportsman Channel cable network last year.

Red Lodge native John Barrett, who founded his Front Street firm in 1989, produces shows such as “Fly Fishing Masters” and “Outdoor Ethics.” Barrett's crews have broadcast PGA golf tournaments and U.S. Open tennis.

He was unavailable for comment Friday.

Jeff Paro, chief executive officer of InterMedia Outdoors, said Barrett Productions will be a subsidiary of his company.

“They bring us 18 years of production expertise, and their creative abilities and facilities in Missoula,” Paro said. “It was a dialogue for so long that it was almost a natural evolution.”

Barrett Productions employed 40 people with a payroll of more than $1 million last year.

Paro said Barrett Productions would maintain a presence in Missoula.

“We just completed this acquisition and at this point there are no plans for layoffs,” Paro said.
