Billings West golfer Jake Hedge took the first-round lead after shooting a four-under-par 68 to take a one-stroke advantage over defending State AA champion Larry Iverson from Kalispell Glacier. Colin Gunstream of Missoula Hellgate sits alone in third after his round of 70, followed by Grahm Schmaltz of Glacier, at 71.
Defending state champion Glacier leads the team race after shooting a combined 293. Billings West stands second at 306, with Billings Senior (312) in third, Helena Capital (318) in fourth and Missoula Sentinel in fifth at 320.
Russell and Bozeman are tied for first in the team standings after each school posted scores of 337. Defending Class A champ Whitefish is third at 338, with Billings West in fourth at 343 and Butte rounding out the top five at 359.
Play is slated to resume Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Eagle Falls Golf Course.

Butte Central Invitational
At Butte, the Bozeman junior varsity boys and Livingston girls took team titles at the Butte Central Invitational at Highland View Golf Course.
The Hawks boys shot a combined round of 316, led by individual medalist Paul Bennett. Livingston took second at 332 and defending Class A champion Hamilton tied for third with the Butte High JV, each finishing at 333.
Bennett's round of 74 was two strokes better than Hans Dierenfeldt from Anaconda, Bret Cregor from Dillon and Belgrade's Drew Ferguson, who tied for second.
The Livingston girls won the team championship with a round of 372. They were followed by Anaconda (391), the Bozeman JV (431) and Hamilton (457).
Teryn Green from Anaconda topped the individual leaderboard with an 83, one stroke better than runner-up Ellie Stanisich from Dillon. Elizabeth Cahoon from Livingston was third at 88 and Lindsay Blass from Frenchtown took fourth with an 89.
