Sanders, Lake counties: Few details so far on possible homicide, standoff
By the Missoulian

Sheriff's deputies from Sanders, Lake, Missoula and Flathead counties were on the scene Sunday of an apparent homicide and an ongoing standoff separated by many miles and a county line.

It was unclear if the two incidents were related, and law enforcement was not willing to provide further details.

The Sanders County Sheriff's Office said one of its deputies was investigating the death of a man whose body was found Saturday along the Thompson River.

The body was found near a ranger station, about 12 miles northeast of Thompson Falls.

Meanwhile, Lake County officers were on the scene of a standoff with a man near Polson. And both the Missoula and Flathead county sheriffs were in Polson late Sunday to lend their expertise, tactical teams and negotiators.

Missoula County Sheriff Mike McMeekin said a man had barricaded himself in a house near Kerr Dam Road just outside Polson, but he could not reveal other details as the incident was outside his jurisdiction.

Phone calls to the Lake County sheriff were not returned.
