Flash flood watch near Madison River
Posted on Sept. 1

By the Associated Press

ENNIS - The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch near the Madison River in southwest Montana, downstream of Hebgen Dam, through 9 p.m. Sunday.

Meteorologist Dan Zumpfe says a dam tender had noticed a higher flow of water on the river because of an open gate at the dam. The higher flow, coupled with forecasts for more rain, prompted the Weather Service to issue the flood watch as a precaution to warn those near the river that water could rise quickly.

Zumpfe says higher elevations of Madison County could get a half-inch more rain, while lower elevations could see about a quarter-inch.
