Thomas E. Redmond, who is on parole for a 1985 attempted homicide conviction, was charged Wednesday in Missoula County Justice Court. He faces two felony counts of criminal possession of dangerous drugs and a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of his child. Redmond remains jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail.
According to charging papers, Redmond sold seven morphine pills to a confidential informant for $200 last month. He then allegedly met the same informant Tuesday in the Shopko parking lot and sold him 15 additional pills of morphine for $450. Each pill is a 30-milligram dose, and costs exactly $1 per milligram.
Redmond's wife, Johna Norunner Redmond, also was charged with felony drug possession after detectives went to the couple's home and discovered a pill bottle containing the narcotic painkillers hydrocodone and oxycodone, which are also Schedule II drugs.
According to charging records, Johna Redmond told the detectives that she knew her husband was selling his medications, and admitted to injecting methamphetamine earlier in the day, in violation of the terms of her probation. She received a deferred sentence for drug possession in 2006. The woman was not taken to jail, as she is pregnant and close to giving birth.
