On their final possession, the Wildcats (2-0) merely pounded the ball up the middle with second- and third-teamers. They had a fourth-and-8 on the Montana State 17 but ran up the middle rather than kicking a field goal. Kansas State also scored on a fumble recovery while ringing up their most points since a school-record 76-0 pounding of Ball State in 2000.
Freeman, a week after accounting for five touchdowns in a 45-6 victory over North Texas, hit 16 of 21 passes for 288 yards, including two 36-yard touchdown strikes, before being lifted midway through the third quarter.
The Bobcats (1-1), an FCS team, had three turnovers, 42 yards in penalties and two disastrous punting game failures while Kansas State was seizing a 31-7 lead in the first quarter.
While rolling up 481 total yards, the Wildcats averaged 7.3 yards per play.
They never punted, but on Montana State's first punt, the ball was snapped over Eric Fisher's head and rolled to the 1. Fisher kicked it through the Kansas State end zone, and the ensuing illegal kick penalty gave the Wildcats a first-and-goal from the 1. Freeman carried it over on the next play.
On Montana State's second punt, the Wildcats scored their second touchdown. Adrian Stryker rushed up the middle to block the kick and Ernie Pierce recovered in the end zone.
Leading 45-7 in the third quarter, the Wildcats did it again. Courtney Herndon came up the middle to block Fisher's punt and Chris Carney picked up the ball on the 5 and ran into the end zone untouched.
Early in the fourth quarter, Herndon plucked the ball out of the air after Demetrius Crawford fumbled, and ran 43 yards for a 55-7 lead.
The frustrated Bobcats, who opened last week with a 59-3 victory over Division II Adams State, kept Kansas State's next scoring drive alive with a roughing-the-passer penalty. Justin Woods' 8-yard run made it 69-7 with 9:53 to go.

Colorado 31, Eastern Washington 24
At Boulder, Colo., the University of Colorado Buffaloes might want to stick to playing the big boys.
For the second time in just over two years, the Buffaloes got all they could handle from a Big Sky Conference team before rallying past Eastern Washington.
Cornerback Cha'pelle Brown picked off a pass and returned it 27 yards to break a 24-24 tie with less than two minutes left.
The Buffaloes (2-0) have played just two Football Championship Subdivision teams in their history. In 2006, they lost to Montana State 19-10 in coach Dan Hawkins' debut, and a loss in this game could have been even more devastating for Colorado, which hosts West Virginia next.
The Eagles (0-2) led 21-7 at halftime, 21-14 heading into the fourth quarter and were still ahead by a touchdown after Felipe Macias' 52-yard field goal gave them a 24-17 lead with four minutes remaining.
The Buffs went 57 yards in five plays, the payoff coming on Cody Hawkins' TD toss to fullback Jake Behrens from 2 yards out, tying it at 24 with 2:05 left.
Two plays later, Brown trotted into the end zone after picking off Matt Nichols' pass, giving the Buffaloes their first lead.

Idaho 42, Idaho St. 27
At Moscow, Idaho, Idaho quarterback Nathan Enderle connected with Maurice Shaw for a 77-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the game and the Vandals went on to post a 42-27 victory over Idaho State to end an 11-game losing streak on Saturday.
It was Idaho's first win since Sept. 8, 2007, when the Vandals beat Cal Poly of San Luis Obispo 20-13. Idaho had a 1-11 record last season.
Idaho evened its 2008 mark at 1-1, while Idaho State dropped to 0-2.
Enderle completed 8-of-18 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions. He only attempted one pass in the second half.
Idaho running back Deonte Jackson had 100 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown, averaging 8.3 yards a carry. He sat out the second half with a sore back.
Shaw caught three passes for 99 yards, while Vandals tight end Eddie Williams had two catches for 38 yards. Williams didn't play much in the second half.

Colorado St. 23, Sacramento St. 20.
At Fort Collins, Colo., Mike Pagnotta recovered a late fumble and freshman kicker Ben DeLine hit a 20-yard field goal with no time remaining, lifting Colorado State to a 23-20 win over Sacramento State on Saturday.
DeLine also connected on a 36-yard field goal to tie the game with 1:29 remaining.
After the Hornets got the ball back, James Morehead broke through the line and nailed tailback Evander Wilkins, jarring the football loose. Pagnotta jumped on the football, setting the stage for DeLine's game-winning kick in Rams coach Steve Fairchild's home debut.
The Rams (1-1) have now won 11 straight against Championship Subdivision foes, but this one was far from easy.
Tony Washington caught seven passes for 117 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter to give Sacramento State a 20-17 lead.

Northern Arizona 68, N. Mexico Highlands 10
At Flagstaff, Ariz., Alex Henderson rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns and Conrad Meadows added 134 yards receiving as Northern Arizona University beat Division II New Mexico Highlands.
The Lumberjacks, who have won 16 straight home openers, totaled 752 yards of total offense, setting a school record. The previous record was 674 yards, set in 1989 against Nevada.
It didn't take long for Northern Arizona to start the scoring binge as the Lumberjacks scored on their first play from scrimmage when Lance Kriesien found Skyler Moore for a 31-yard touchdown strike.
Northern Arizona played three quarterbacks and the trio were 21-for-33 for 405 yards and five touchdowns.
