But the Missoula man was killed on the final leg of his brief journey when the driver of an SUV allegedly collided with him on North Reserve Street, leading to a felony charge of vehicular homicide while under the influence.
Hewitt was driving his motorcycle northbound on Reserve Street around 9:30 p.m. when the southbound SUV tried turning left onto Third Street directly in the man's path.
A passenger riding in Jones' Nissan SUV was taken to the police station for questioning, and told detectives that both women had been drinking at Jones' house before the collision, records state.
Jones failed numerous field sobriety tests administered by police shortly after the collision. Her blood alcohol content was not available, pending lab results from the state Crime Lab, according to Deputy Missoula County Attorney Jason Marks.
Witnesses told police the light was green for Reserve Street traffic when the Nissan turned in front of Hewitt's motorcycle, which apparently skidded into the vehicle.
Hewitt was taken to St. Patrick Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Jones remains in custody at the Missoula County jail on $25,000 bail. She faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in the Montana State Prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
