The two Olympic gold medalists will join Missoula’s own David Cromwell, world championship silver medalist Jeri Moss and Olympic swimmer Eric Shanteau at the third annual Texas Gold swim clinic on Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Grizzly Pool.
Peirsol and Walker have been on hand for previous clinics hosted by Cromwell, the Missoula Hellgate product who narrowly missed qualifying for the Olympics at the U.S. trials in July. All three swim together at the Texas-based Longhorn Aquatic Club.
Walker is one of only three people in history to win seven medals at one World Championships and is a two-time Olympian with four medals to his name.
Cromwell is a reigning U.S. national champion backstroker and was a seven-time All-American at Harvard University before moving to Texas to join the Longhorn club.
A former Auburn University backstroker, Moss led the Tigers to three NCAA team championships and won a silver medal at the 2005 World Championships.
Shanteau was diagnosed with testicular cancer just a week before the U.S. Olympic trials in July, but still qualified for the team and went on to swim a career best in the 200-meter breaststroke.
Shanteau will be in Missoula on Friday to speak during the Texas Gold ice cream social from 6-7:30 p.m. at Paxson School. It’s open to the public and the cost is $3 per person, $10 per family and is free for clinic swimmers.
The day-long clinic begins Sunday and is open to all swimmers aged 11 years and older. Sign-in starts at 7:30 a.m. and the cost is $95. The clinic is offered by the Missoula Aquatic Club. For more information, contact the MAC at www.macswim.org.
