The citations were issued during a 14-hour period between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7 a.m., during Week Two of Missoula’s Operation Party Patrol.
Aimed at curtailing underage drinking, the patrol is part of the police department’s “Comprehensive Strategic Response Plan,” rolled out a week ago in an effort to reduce drunken driving and alcohol-related violence.
The task force will also conduct ongoing compliance checks with bars, casinos and convenience stores, and step up foot beats, Odlin said.

" Yes!! I am glad to see the officers are trying to prevent something before the paper has to run another story on a kid O.D.ing on alcohol at a party. Jason's comment below of "kids just having a beer" forgets it is illegal and for a reason. How is a kid drinking a "victimless crime"? Many, many people end up being victims when that kid dies or is injured or hurts someone else! Sorry Jason, to have to break your idealistic bubble. If you think differently then you need to check with the emergency rooms of your local hospitals. I am sure they can enlighten you on the effects of kids and alcohol and just how far reaching it is. Missoula Police, Keep Up The Good Work!!! "

" I wonder how many of these "minors" have the finances to pay these citations? How much is the fine for their terrible crime?(rhyme unintended) I'd like to see what the courts would do if none of them could pay and mommy and daddy refused. What if every one of them plead not guilty and since they have no ability to pay, request a public defender? "

" As one of the owners of an MIP ticket this weekend, I just want to say this is getting ridiculous. I am 21 in 8 days and blew a .06, the girl I was with blew a .036. One beer, we both got tickets. I have never seen cops like this, it's like a contest among them to see who can write the most tickets "

" No doubt. this city is corrupt and always finding ways to charge top dollar for enforced punishments that are part of some contrived task force. They never have good reason to stop people and just know that people don't have the money to hire an attorney to contest those things. It's a very sad police force and local government here. I'll bet Karen Orzech is jealous that citations aren't being handed out in that inflated supply in her county jurisdiction.
Shouldn't law enforcement be focusing on stabbings and homeless people being beaten to death? We pay their salaries, and should be directing their focus. "
