Beating suspects charged with attempted homicide
Oct. 4

BOZEMAN (AP) - Two Bozeman men jailed in the severe beating last month of a 30-year-old man have been charged with attempted deliberate homicide.

Roommates Miles Kingman and Ryan Dibert, both 26, initially were charged with aggravated assault. Deputy Gallatin County Attorney Todd Whipple amended the charges Thursday but declined to comment on the case.

Dibert’s attorney, Kirsten Mull Core, also declined to comment, saying she hadn’t seen the new charges.

Kingman’s attorney, Eric Brewer, says he has no reason to believe his client “attempted or intended to kill anyone,” and is disappointed that the state chose to amend the charges.

Prosecutors allege Kingman and Dibert attacked Paul Overby of Bozeman in an alley behind a bar on Sept. 17 after trying to steal a mo-ped.

Overby was treated at a Bozeman hospital for severe injuries, including numerous broken bones in his face.
