VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Plains tops Darby for first win of season

PLAINS - There were few in attendance more proud of the Plains volleyball team than head coach Jesse Cahala after the Trotters picked up their first win of the season Saturday evening.

District 7-B Plains broke into the win column by earning a 25-23, 24-26, 25-23, 25-23 nonconference victory over District 6-B Darby.

Emma Ehret led the way for the Trotters (1-6) with 10 kills and two blocks. But Cahala credited her entire squad's effort.

“They fought hard and they fought to the end,” she said. “It's really nice for the girls to get a taste of victory. I hope they keep that taste for a while.”

Lacey Hermiston collected 10 of Plains' 21 aces and Heather Earhart set seven assists. Kylee Knudson and Alexis Kuenzer each had five digs for the Trotters.

The Tigers were led by Mariah Cress' six kills and six digs.

Missoula Sentinel def. Kalispell Glacier, 3-0


At Kalispell, Jennifer Keddy had 20 kills, 15 digs and five blocks to lead Missoula Sentinel to a Western AA sweep of Kalispell Glacier.

The Spartans won 25-23, 25-17, 25-19.

Sarah Stocker ran the Sentinel offense, picking up 21 assists while Bailey Branson and Morgan McCarthy served two aces apiece.

Emilee Hashley led Glacier with seven kills, three blocks and three aces.

At Hamilton, Kim Gilder paced the Blue Devils to the 25-16, 25-21, 29-27 Southwestern A sweep.

Gilder collected 16 kills and five aces, while Callie Ward and Angie Henderson scooped eight digs apiece for Corvallis. Whitney Henderson added 24 of the Blue Devils' 27 assists.

Hamilton received five kills apiece from Vanessa Fiore and Kyla Grimes.

At Frenchtown, a double-double by Laura Geis led the Broncs over the Wildkats in a nonconferene match.

Geis had 10 kills and 10 blocks in leading Southwestern A Frenchtown to a 25-23, 25-5, 25-15 sweep.

Preslee Maki added nine stuffs, while Kristy Kees and Jamie Willis served four aces apiece for the Broncs (6-3).

Alyssa Ladenburg had six kills and 14 digs for Columbia Falls (1-5).

At Libby, the Loggers posted a 25-23, 24-26, 25-15, 25-22 win against Polson to earn a Southwestern A victory.

The two teams combined for 116 digs and 91 kills in four games.

The Pirates' Nicole Davey and Libby's Jackie Mee battled at the net. Davey totaled a match-high 20 kills in a losing effort, while Mee tallied 18 and four blocks.

Devon Hoyer added 15 digs and seven kills for the Loggers and Evi Cernick dished out 17 assists and served three aces.

Breanne Kelley had a solid all-around performance, totaling 17 digs, 13 kills and two blocks for Polson and Kayla Duford set 43 of the Pirates' 44 assists.

Libby def. Polson, 25-23, 24-26, 25-15, 25-22.

At Stevensville, the Copperheads swept the Yellowjackets 25-18, 25-19, 25-19 en route to a Southwestern A victory.

Anaconda hitters totaled 42 kills, compared to 18 for Stevensville.

McCall Flynn led the attack for the Copperheads, tallying 12 kills. Brittany Sturm added nine digs and three aces in the win, while Torry Hill and Kelsey Austin set 15 assists apiece.

The Yellowjackets were led by Janele Jessop's five kills and Shelby Munson's 10 digs.

Anaconda def. Stevensville 25-18, 25-19, 25-19.

Loyola Sacred Heart def. Troy, 3-0


Abby Mansch helped the District 6-B Breakers remain undefeated with a convincing 25-7, 25-10, 25-10 win over District 7-B Troy at the Sister Rita Activity Center.

Mansch dished out 18 assists and added six of Loyola's 18 aces as the Breakers moved to 8-0. Brittany Dahlen had nine kills and five digs, while Loyola teammates Colleen Miller and Emma Priddy each had a block.

Alicia Anderson had a pair of kills for the Trojans, who fell to 3-5.

Kirstin Parks collected nine kills and four blocks in leading the Trojans to a Class B nonconference victory at Valley Christian gym.

Troy (4-4) dropped the opening game, then rallied to win, 14-25, 25-17, 25-14, 26-24.

Charisa Ireland had six kills and three aces for Valley Christian (0-7).

At Eureka, the Lions stayed unbeaten in District 7-B action with a sweep, 25-13, 26-24, 25-18.

Briann Linnell tallied nine kills and five blocks for Eureka (6-0 conference, 8-1 overall). Jonna Yost dished out eight assists for the Lions.

Rheanna Padden posted eight kills and two blocks for Thompson Falls (2-3, 4-5).

At St. Ignatius, the Wardens posted a 25-18, 25-21, 25-21 sweep of the Bulldogs in nonconference Class B play.

Deer Lodge's Danni Johnson tallied a match-high nine kills, while Andi Lambert added eight digs and five aces and Morgan Close set 13 assists.

St. Ignatius (2-2, 6-5) served 16 aces in the match, led by Kelsey Cable and Jordan Adams with five apiece. Lisa Larsson added six kills for the Bulldogs and Mattea Grant had 16 assists.

At Pablo, after winning game one 25-19, Two Eagle lost the next three, 25-9, 25-17, 25-17 as Superior picked up the District 10-C win.

In a serving battle, Superior posted 19 aces, while Two Eagle had 15.

Tara Bower led the Bobcats with seven kills and five aces. Alex Conrow added 14 assists and Caitlyn Bailey had five aces.

Two Eagle's Jalen Carpentier had eight kills and four blocks, while Matyssa Quequesah served a match-high seven aces.

Superior def. Two Eagle, 19-25, 25-9, 25-17, 25-17.

At Drummond, the District 6-B Blackhawks received 11 kills and two blocks from Cascade Parcell and swept District 9-C Drummond 25-23, 25-19, 25-12.

Summit Parcell set 14 assists and had three aces for Seeley-Swan and Alyssa Campbell scooped up 12 digs. Catalina Parcell added 11 kills for the Blackhawks.

Megan Oberweiser collected seven assists for the Trojans, who fell to 4-3.

Seeley-Swan def. Drummond 25-23, 25-19, 25-12

At Arlee, the Scarlets stayed undefeated, improving to 5-0 in District 9-C play and 8-0 overall with a 25-19, 25-15, 25-9 sweep of Lincoln.

Arlee limited the Lynx to three team kills, while piling up 29 of their own to go with 26 aces.

Kayla Dix led the Scarlets with a double-double of 15 kills and 12 assists. Carlee Allestad and Adrieana Trujillo added six aces apiece.

Lincoln's Jacquie Erikson scooped up 13 digs and led the Lynx in blocks and aces as well.

Arlee def. Lincoln, 25-19, 25-15, 25-9.

At Hot Springs, junior Stephanie Murphy slammed 16 kills and added 15 digs to lead Charlo to a thrilling five-game victory over District 10-C foe Hot Springs.

Stephanie Maughan dished 37 set assists and served seven aces for the Vikings, who won 28-30, 25-16, 12-25, 29-27, 16-14, to keep their perfect mark intact at 6-0, 9-0.

The match, which went extra points in three of the five sets, saw Hot Springs lose for the first time this season.

Randi Arnold had 18 kills and Jordon Fisher recorded six blocks to lead the Savage Heat (4-1, 6-1).

Charlo def. Hot Springs, 28-30, 25-16, 12-25, 29-27, 16-14.
