The collected glasses and hearing aids will be cleaned and prepared for distribution in developing countries, where eye care is often unaffordable and inaccessible.
The donated glasses will be shipped to a regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center, where they will be cleaned categorized by prescription and prepared for distribution by Lions and other groups.
To donate used glasses, place them in the specially marked Lions Recycle for Sight collection boxes located at Rovero’s in Seeley Lake, Lolo Physical Therapy in Lolo, Joker’s Wild in Missoula and Albertsons at Eastgate Shopping Center in Missoula.
Missoula Aging Services and local long-term care facilities encourage you to visit someone you know in a nursing home during Residents’ Rights Week on Oct. 5-11. Designated by the National Citizens’ Coalition for Nursing Home Reform, the week highlights the importance of residents’ participation in discussions about improving the quality of care in their long-term care facilities.
Locally, MAS ombudsmen and several facilities are planning special discussions. Village Nursing Home will host a town hall meeting with residents and family members titled “Defining Home,” scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
Missoula Aging Services also provides information on how to find a facility, plus educational programs and one-to-one consultation to residents, their families and the public on long-term care.
Copies of residents’ rights are available to the public at MAS, 337 Stephens Ave. For more information about the local ombudsman program or residents’ rights, call the Senior Help Line at MAS, 728-7682.
