Body found on Mount Sentinel
By TRISTAN SCOTT of the Missoulian

A pair of hikers discovered the body of an unidentified man on Saturday evening while traversing a steep, craggy trail that skirts the north edge of Mount Sentinel.

Missoula County Sheriff Mike McMeekin said the body appears to have been on the mountain for at least several weeks, and could relate to a month-old missing persons report. However, because the report was vague on details - such as a description of the missing man's clothing and his personal belongings - investigators are attempting to contact family members who filed the complaint.

The body was about 300 yards from the bottom of the Smokejumper Trail, which branches off the Kim Williams Trail, winds up the north side of Mount Sentinel, looking down Hellgate Canyon, and connects with Crazy Canyon Road. The area is not conducive to camping, and McMeekin said it did not appear the man had suffered any trauma.

“Based on the initial scene examination, there is no indication of a fall or of any foul play,” McMeekin said. “But of course, it's wide open until we get the results from the medical examiner.”

Sheriff's deputies, city police and University of Montana public safety officers responded to the mountain around 7 p.m. Saturday.

McMeekin said anyone with information about the body should call 9-1-1 or the Missoula County Sheriff's Department.

" Dear Mr Triston Scott
My name is Rachelle Fiscus. I spoke to you awhile ago regarding this body, possibly being my husband. I never heard back from you regarding what we spoke about. The Chief Officer in handly this case has said until we get 100% sure that this in fact is my husband David E Fiscus we really can't do anything until after the D&A comes back. When it does and we know for sure that indeed it is truly him. We would like to run a story about him. Just maybe someone in Montana knew him.
