The twice-delayed State AA golf tournament finally got under way Tuesday in Helena, which suited Kalispell Glacier's Larry Iverson III just fine.
Iverson opened with a 5-under-par 66 at Green Meadow Country Club to take a five-stroke lead in the race for boys' medalist honors in the 36-hole tournament, which concludes Wednesday.
Jake Hedge of Billings West is alone in second after shooting an even-par 71. Brandon McIver of West is third after a 72, while Sentinel's Austin Edwards, Senior's Tim Keinitz and Ben Ternes of Helena Capital are tied for fourth at 73.
The Great Falls Russell girls opened with a score of 342 to take a 10-stroke lead over Billings West. Bozeman is third at 356 and Kalispell Glacier is fourth at 372.
CMR's Alexa Bell will also take a five-stroke lead into the final round after opening with a 3-over 76. Erin King of West, Ashley Ogolin of Butte, Natalie Beard of CMR, Morgan Lee of Great Falls and Glacier's Karli Aurich are all knotted for second at 81.
