By the Missoulian

The boys' and girls' cross country teams for Missoula Hellgate ran away with the team titles Tuesday during the Runner's Edge meet at the University of Montana golf course.

The Knights placed seven runners in the boys' top 20 and the girls' team put seven in the top 15. Hellgate's boys scored 44 points, while the girls had 34.

Sentinel's boys and girls came in second, scoring 67 and 74 points, respectively. Darby, led by individual boys' winner Matt Stout, finished third in the standings with 71 points.

Stout broke the tape in 16 minutes, 2 seconds. Teammate Seth Garbett took third, five seconds after Loyola Sacred Heart's Mike Evans (16:18).

Dan Sullivan took fourth, and was the first of Hellgate's rush of runners.

Big Sky (91) was third in the girls' standings behind its first-place finisher Taylor Rather, who finished in 18:49.

Sentinel's Chantelle Grey (19:05) and Darby's Heather Demorest (19:06) followed close behind.

Five of the next six finishers were Hellgaters, led by Emily Howell (19:31).

The 3-mile course was the exact same course used for last month's Mountain West Classic and it's also the same course as next weekend's all-class state meet in Missoula.
