VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Loyola still unbeaten in league

The Loyola Sacred Heart volleyball team strengthened its grip on first place in District 6-B with a four-game win against second place Florence on Thursday night at the Sister Rita Activity Center.

The Breakers stayed perfect in conference play, improving to 6-0 and 10-2 overall with a 25-12, 15-25, 25-18, 25-18 victory.

“It was a tough match, but we came out and played really well, getting off to a good start,” Loyola coach Randy Stobb said. “In game two we had a letdown, but managed to pull ahead in games three and four.”

Senior outside hitter Brittany Dahlin recorded a match-high nine kills for the Breakers, while fellow senior Abby Mansch controlled the offense, dishing out 22 of Loyola's 24 assists.

Abby's younger sister, sophomore Madison Mansch, chipped in 11 digs and Alex Lamey floored five aces.

Florence (5-2, 11-2) was led by Katie Niemeir and Jo Johnston, who each tallied seven kills. Amanda Heffner added 14 digs.

Great Falls High def. Missoula Big Sky, 3-0


Lacey Beaumont had 14 kills to pace Eastern AA Great Falls to a sweep of Western AA Big Sky at the Eagles' gym.

Jessi Younggren set 31 assists for the Bison en route to a 25-23, 25-17, 25-22 win. Also, Erica Jenkins had four aces for Great Falls.

Lindsey Hall finished with eight kills and six digs to pace the Eagles (7-7). Setter Sarah Lidstrom had 18 assists.

Missoula Sentinel def. Helena Capital, 3-0

At Helena, Jennifer Keddy led the Spartans to a Western AA sweep of Capital, 25-10, 25-20, 25-19.

Keddy controlled the net with 13 kills, six blocks and five aces. She also collected nine digs to cap her all-around performance.

Sara Stocker chipped in 17 assists and Hope Nelson scooped up 12 digs for the Spartans (11-3).

Capital (2-10) was led by Tara Will's 11 digs and six kills and Sammi Bignell's six kills and pair of blocks.

Missoula Sentinel def. Helena Capital, 25-10, 25-20, 25-19.

Kills - Sentinel 23 (Jennifer Keddy 13), Capital 27 (Tara Will 6, Sammi Bignell 6). Blocks - Sentinel 11 (Keddy 6), Capital 3 (Bignell 2). Digs - Sentinel 45 (Hope Nelson 12), Capital 37 (Will 11). Corvallis def. Whitefish, 3-0


At Corvallis, Ali Bierer hammered down 14 kills and Southwestern A Corvallis beat Northwestern A Whitefish 25-22, 26-24, 25-16.

The Blue Devils finished with 14 blocks to the Bulldogs' four. Also, Callie Ward served four aces for Corvallis, which won once and lost once on the day.

McCara Cullen led Whitefish with 10 kills, 13 digs and two blocks.

At Corvallis, Nicole Davey collected 15 kills and four blocks in leading the Pirates to the nonconference win, 25-19, 25-22, 25-23.

Whitney Henderson had 18 assists and 12 digs for Corvallis (6-4).

At Hamilton, senior Ashley Albert swatted 15 kills and had four of her team's six blocks in leading the Broncs over the Bulldogs in nonconference action.

Tiffani Keimig added six service aces for Hamilton as it rallied for a 25-22, 25-27, 17-25, 25-18, 15-10 victory. Melissa Hood added 13 digs for the Southwestern A Broncs (3-8).

McCara Cullen tallied 16 kills to lead the Northwestern A Bulldogs (5-4). Shannon Kalbfleisch chipped in 11.

Whitefish def. Hamilton, 25-22, 25-27, 17-25, 25-18, 15-10.

At Hamilton, Roxy Thurman and Emily Hardman made sure Bigfork made quick work of Hamilton in the nonconference match.

Thurman recorded 12 kills and three stuffs and Hardman scooped up 15 digs to lead the Vals to a 25-20, 26-24, 25-16 sweep.

Northwestern A Bigfork served 11 aces, including five by Rachael Luckow.

Ashley Albert had seven kills and Kyla Grymes added five for the Southwestern A Broncs.

Kalispell Flathead def. Libby, 3-1

At Libby, the Bravettes earned a 25-16, 25-23, 25-20 nonconference sweep of the Loggers.

Kalispell overcame a big match from Libby's Jackie Mee, who just missed out on a double-double with a match-high 15 kills and nine digs for the Loggers (6-2).

The Bravettes' (3-10) Ariel Johnson countered Mee at the net, tallying eight kills and eight blocks.

Chaela Liss added 22 assists and five aces, while Megan Olszewski pitched in nine digs.

Kalispell Flathead def. Libby, 25-16, 25-23, 25-20.

Kills - Flathead 27 (Ariel Johnson 8), Libby 28 (Jackie Mee 15). Blocks - Flathead 10 (A. Johnson 8), Libby 1 (Mee 0.5, Katie Emery 0.5). Digs - Flathead 35 (Megan Olszewski 9), Libby 34 (Mee 9). Class B

Eureka def. St. Ignatius, 3-0


At Eureka, the Lions wrapped up the District 7-B title with a 25-8, 25-10, 25-16 win over St. Ignatius.

Eureka (7-0 in league, 9-3 overall), was led by Taylor Holder's nine kills and eight digs and Mariah Newell added three blocks and three aces. Setter Jonna Yost guided the offense with 18 assists.

The Lions still have one more league match remaining with Plains next week, but even a loss there can't stop Eureka from winning its first outright league crown since moving back to Class B.

The Lions were co-champs with Thompson Falls last year.

St. Ignatius (2-3, 6-7) received a team-high four kills from Lessa Larsson and nine digs from Kelsey Cable.

Eureka def. St. Ignatius, 25-8, 25-10, 25-16.

Deer Lodge def. Seeley-Swan, 3-1

At Deer Lodge, the Wardens earned a 25-15, 25-23, 19-25, 25-12 District 6-B victory against Seeley-Swan.

Syd McKee posted a team-high eight kills to lead Deer Lodge offensively, while Dani Johnson did more than her part on defense, tallying 25 digs. As a team, the Wardens picked up 76 digs compared to the Blackhawks' 64 in the hitting battle.

Andi Lambert added six aces and a pair of blocks for the Wardens (5-3, 7-6).

Catalina Parcell finished with 10 kills to lead Seeley-Swan (2-4, 4-8), while Summit Parcell pitched in 16 assists and five aces.

Deer Lodge def. Seeley Swan, 25-15, 25-23, 19-25, 25-12.

Thompson Falls def. Plains, 3-0

At Thompson Falls, the Bluehawks rolled over Plains 25-9, 25-9, 25-11 for a District 7-B win.

Aces were the scoring method of choice for Thompson Falls, which totaled 29 compared to the Trotters' six.

Rheanna Padden floored seven aces to go with eight kills to lead the Bluehawks (3-3, 6-5). Karli Cavill chipped in 18 assists and five digs. Hannah Peters had six aces and a block in the win.

The Bluehawks limited the Trotters to only two kills in the game.

Plains (0-5, 1-9) was led by Heather Earhart's four aces.

Thompson Falls def. Plains, 25-9, 25-9, 25-11.
