Sgt. Greg Amundsen said at least two officers will be assigned to the DUI saturation patrol, which targets popular channels between campus and the downtown bar scene, and other outlets leading to bars and restaurants along Brooks Street.
In an effort to combat impaired driving, the roving weekend patrols will work Friday through Sunday. They'll focus on the University area before, during and after the Grizzly football game, targeting areas where police suspect a high concentration of intoxicated drivers.
The Montana Highway Patrol will also be on hand, volunteering its Mobile Impaired Driver Assessment Center to expedite the detection, arrest and processing of drunken drivers, Amundsen said. The center will be parked at the Eastgate Shopping Center during Saturday's football game, and Amundsen will be around to answer questions.
The weekend patrol is the latest in a string of DUI Saturations by the MPD over the past few years.
“This is part of an ongoing process to reduce impaired driving and eliminate DUI-related injury crashes,” Amundsen said.
