Race to Sky adds stages

HELENA - The Race to the Sky sled dog race will start with a three-leg stage race in an effort to attract more mushers to the 2009 race.

Spokeswoman Pam Beckstrom says teams can run the three stages or the stages and the continuous part of the race.

The first stage, to be held on Feb. 13, runs from Deer Lodge to Butte. The second is from Butte to Camp Rimini west of Helena and the third is a loop in the Lincoln area. The stages and the continuous portion of the race that starts in Lincoln, turns around at Seeley Lake and returns to Lincoln, total 400 miles.
