Airman 1st Class Steven D. Gardner graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Gardner is the son of Jim and Cynthia Gardner of Stevensville and a 2005 graduate of Valley Christian School.
Army
National Guard Staff Sgt. Michael T. Noyce Merino won the title of Army Noncommissioned Officer of the Year at the “Best Warrior” competition at Fort Lee in Petersburg, Va. He has served in the military for seven years. The National Guardsman is an infantry squad leader and member of the 1st Battalion, 163rd Combat Arms Brigade based at Fort Harrison in Helena.
Pvt. Kelly A. Fletcher graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. She is the daughter of Diana Fletcher of Fountain, Colo., and sister of Angela Weber of Ronan. Fletcher is a 2005 graduate of Kicking Horse Job Corps Center in Ronan.
Kyle E. Malerk graduated from the Army ROTC?Leader Development and Assessment Court, also known as Operation Warrior Forge, at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash. Malerk is the son of Donald and Mary Malerk of Missoula. He is a 2005 graduate of Sentinel High school and a student at the University of Montana.
Pvt. Michael A. Avila graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. Avila is the son of Tony Avila of Superior and is a 2008 graduate of Superior High School.
Marines
Cpl. Samuel A. Naldrett and fellow Marines and sailors of Marine Wing Support Squadron 172, Marine Wing Support Group 17, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Marines Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, returned from a seven-month deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism. Naldrett is the son of Jeanne and Scott French of Kalispell.
Cpl. Milan C. Asencio was promoted to his current rank and reported for duty with Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron One, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Okinawa, Japan. Asencio is the son of Tina Grenfell of Polson and Maxim Ascenio of Pablo.

Seaman Danny L. Vulgamore and Seaman Christopher J. Pearson and Seaman Apprentice Sarah M. Nickelson completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. Vulgamore is the son of Darlene Vulgamore of Trout Creek and Ivan Vulgamore of Thompson Falls and a 2008 graduate of Thompson Falls High School. Pearson is the son of Janice and Rick Pearson of Lolo and is a 2006 graduate of Big Sky High School. Nickelson is a 2008 graduate of Florence-Carlton High School.
Seaman Jesse W. Hosler was promoted to his current rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. Hosler is the son of Peggy Hosler of Kalispell and Eric Hayes of Kalispell. He is a 2007 graduate of Flathead High School.
Brian S. Grubb enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the delayed entry program at Navy Recruiting District Minneapolis. Grubb is the son of Kimberly Wolf of Darby and Daniel Grubb of Lexington, Neb.
Seaman Apprentice Matthew A. Roberts completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. Roberts is the son of Janice Roberts of Libby and a 2007 graduate of Libby High School.
