Those to be honored include the late Ed Hauser of Anaconda, Mike Huggins of Kalispell, Kathleen Monaghan of Miles City, Fernadel Omeasoo of Browning, Loree Payne of Havre, Stacey Smiedala of Billings and Mike Zadick of Great Falls.
Hauser excelled in basketball and track and field, scoring a record 38 points to help Anaconda beat Kalispell in the 1912 state basketball championship.
Monaghan excelled in basketball at track at Custer County High in 1986, winning three state championships in the 1,600 meter and 3,200 meters. She still holds the Class A state record for the 1,600 meters.
Omeasoo excelled in cross country at Browning High from 1977-1980 and was the first Montanan to win four state cross country individual championships.
Payne averaged 25 points per game during her basketball career at Havre, was a three-year starter in volleyball and helped the team to back-to-back state championships in 1998 and 1999. She won the state high jump championship in 1998 and went on to play basketball at the University of Washington, where she is now an assistant women's coach.
Smiedala still holds the all-class record in the 800 meters, which he set at Billings West in 1986. He also won the 400 meters and anchored the 1,600-meter relay as the West boys won the state title. Smiedala went on to compete in track and field at the University of Kansas.
Zadick, who graduated from Great Falls High in 1997, was a four-time Class AA state wrestling champion with a 156-1 record, and was a three-time All-American at Iowa, where he is now an assistant coach. Zadick competed for the United States World Team, winning a silver medal in China in 2006, and the competed in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
