Global warming seems to be hibernating

Steve Running, where are you? You and Al Gore seem to be inconveniently missing this winter. How long has it been snowing now? The forecast is for more heavy snowfalls across America in the near future. I thought about you and Al when I saw people being snowed on in Malibu, Calif. Frankly, I don’t know how much more of this global warming I can take.

Incidentally, the Nobel Peace Prize has degenerated into a tool for envious Third World countries to jab America with. It used to be a genuine symbol of excellence. Now, in many cases, it is a reward for people who denigrate America better than others in their respective categories. I remember how insulting you were to skeptics of the global warming myth you helped create. I resent your hostile, dismissive remarks to global warming non-believers. It is interesting that so many radical environmentalists express scorn for religion, especially Christianity, while your fanatical commitment to a myth has taken on religious qualities.

You doomsday people attack anyone who questions your claim that humans are destroying the earth. Admit that these freezing temperatures and heavy snows have given the lie to your propaganda. Come to think of it, weren’t you blaming global freezing on humans before you started blaming people for global warming?

Professor Running, you need to understand that if truth was on your side you would have no need to insult those who question your theories. Your boorish response to legitimate questions brands you, Al Gore and others in your camp as perpetrators of fraud on an unprecedented level. It would be helpful and refreshing to have you engage in an honest discussion of your theory.

" Gene Williams repeats the myth that one season's 'weather' in one region of the world negates the preponderance of evidence that the planet's 'climate' is warming as a result of human activity.

Translation: Don't confuse me with science, I have BELIEFS. "

" Gene: Seems like you need a little refresher course in the difference between weather (meteorological conditions of the next day - month) and climate (long term conditions of the meteorology over years - decades). Using your "rationale" your letter will look pretty stupid if one reads it next August when it's 102 degrees in Missoula...or even later on this winter when it hits 50 degrees and all the snow melts.

P.S. Are you saying Christianity is a "myth"? "

" This is a prime example of the kind of ignorance that is fostered by constantly referring to the impacts of greenhouse gas emissions as "global warming" instead of "global climate change." People who have not studied science do not appreciate that heat is a measure of disorder on a systematic scale, so that raising the "heat" of the planet means greater disorder, which translates not into uniform temperature increases but rather greater extremes in all kinds of weather -- hotter hots, colder colds, more snow in some places, more drought in others, etc. The press does a disservice to people who do not have requisite education to understand the subtleties of this kind of science. Sorry, Gene, but snow in Montana does not refute global climate change. If you lived on that island that is disappearing due to rising ocean levels from melting polar ice caps, maybe you wouldn't be quite so smug. Just like if you lived in southern Australia, with skyrocketing skin cancer rates, you wouldn't scoff at depletion of the ozone layer (not a "hole", as the press likes to report, but a thinning that is greater in some places than others). "

" You make the statement: "You doomsday people attack anyone who questions your claim..." This goes for people with your beliefs as well. You see one instance that doesn't fit into the way you conceptualize a theory and rail against the theory by submitting a "boorish" response such as this. Let me enlighten you further...you display several thinking errors which weaken your credibility. You take a victim stance regarding others view of America, you make decisions based on assumptions rather than facts, justifying your beliefs, super-optimism, you appear to view the world in extremes with little regard for the subtle nuances of the gray areas that exist. If I may repeat a quote I heard recently: "you have a stunningly superficial knowledge of this...it's embarrassing to listen to you." Have your beliefs if you need them. Be aware of the limits of your knowledge and before you denigrate a world renowned scientist, make sure you have the credentials to do so. If you have such credentials, you shouldn't need to post your thoughts here, there are countless peer reviewed journals in which to publish your research debunking the concept of climate change. I'll look for them there Gene. "

" In case no one has noticed "global warming" has been replaced by "climate change". Thus, no matter what happens the humans are bad (especially the Americans) people will be right. Were you aware of the 80's and the "New Ice Age"?

Wait a moment. I just remembered. It's new years eve. Please excuse me for a moment while I make a tax deductable "carbon credit" donation. It probably won't help the climate but it will make me feel much better when I turn up the thermostat before I jet off to points south. "

" Anyone - on either side - professing to know exactly how this world works is deluding themselves. When science fails to look for contraindications to a theory then it is no longer science but an agenda. When an agenda is backed by colossal amounts of money it then becomes dogma.

A few facts:

Evidence from all over the world indicates that the earth was hotter 1,000 years ago than today.

Nasa data has shown that the hottest decade of the 20th century was not the 1990s but the 1930s.

Antarctic sea-ice this year reached its highest level since satellite records began in 1979. Polar bear numbers are also at record levels.

UN this year claimed that the cause of melting glaciers in the Himalayas was not global warming but the local warming effect of a vast localized fossil fuel induced "atmospheric brown cloud".

And, if you travel round the world and simply ask people, they will say that their winters have been getting steadily colder.

What a catastrophe would befall us if the world truly is getting colder, and not just during a natural cycle - a far more dangerous concept.

It's time to drop the mantra on both sides, use the data in a scientific manner and debate it without trite insults.

BTW - the two arguments put forward in the followup comments can be reversed to have the same effect - making them both redundant. "

" Gene, has it right people, you can't just use one year's tempertures to make a prediction. But all the so called "evidence" that the planet's climate is warming by huge amounts caused by man is also wrong by that same claim. The fact is: you can't claim a thing by using a miniscule amount of the universe's time. Even the eco-terroristic planet warmers society has to admit it lied to us as they where caught this year using false information that has since been discovered to by that lie. When this last centuries warmest periods where in the 1930's instead of the 90's and then again this 00's like the false claims of the global warming group.

The legislature this year has also got fools in it who have been tricked into believing the political "scams for dollars" of Al Gore and his Chicken Little group. "

" Last I heard China was the biggest poluter. This could be due to the large trade deficit the US has with them. More production more pollution, we all saw the Summer Olympics. I do believe humans have a role in Global Warming, but also understand cyclical changes and warming trends are the other actors. Our soon to be broke again automakers aught to use 1 emission control system, not many, you can't tell me the technology isn't there. The same goes for fuel, why so many blends and grades? You can't tell me that this couldn't be reduced to 1 blend and 1 grade. There are a ton of options we have to do our part to help reduce Global Warming, the question is are we doing it, personally, locally, corporately, govern"mental"ly? "

" If the doctor tells me something I don't like I don't say "no your wrong, I know better". Why would you do the same to a climate expert? It is ridiculous to think that 99.9 percent of the world's climate scientists would lie to us, and get away with it. You naysayers are old and don't care. Someday you will be replaced by people who face the consequences of our actions. "

" Al Gore has really stepped in it this time. He could have spent the rest of his global warming career collecting money by spreading fear over events that were a centure or at least half century in the future. Oh, but that wasn't good enough for Big Al. He's now told the biggest global warming whopper of his alarmist career:

AL GORE HAS GUARANTEED THAT THE NORTHERN POLAR ICE CAP WILL BE COMPLETELY GONE IN FIVE YEARS!!!

When I heard this I assumed it was a rumor started by skeptics to make Gore look bad. It wasn't until I viewed the video that I realized what Gore had done. Gore has started a five year credibility countdown timer ticking and it's up to all of us to make sure that he is held accountable and proven to be a fraud when his dire prediction aimed at drumming up support doesn't come close to comming true.

The mainstream media isn't going to let this video see the light of day because they, unlike Al, understand the precarious position in which he has placed himself.

It is therefore up to us to spread the word about Big Al's prediction. He must be exposed for the fearmongering opportunist that he has become.

Seeley Lake sled dog races canceled
Posted on Jan. 7
By the Missoulian

There’ll be no sled dog races in the Blackfoot this weekend.

Race director Jim Bauch said Wednesday morning the Seeley Lake 300 and 200 have been called off. The races were set to begin Thursday and Friday, respectively.

Heavy rain and warm weather have made the trails a mess, and there’s an avalanche warning at Huckleberry Pass between the Whitetail Ranch at Ovando and Lincoln.

“We’ve had - what? - three-quarters inch of rain overnight and it just turned to slush,” said Bauch, from race headquarters in Seeley Lake on Wednesday morning. “The whole town is just awash, and there’s water standing everywhere.”

A forecast for wet and even warmer weather in the next couple of days cemented the decision. "
