Tester, the only Democrat in the U.S. Senate to vote against both the $700 billion financial sector bailout in October along with a more recent bailout for Detroits Big Three automakers, said he supports federal money to put people to work buildng roads and bridges.
Tester also said public money must be spent to enhance Montana’s natural beauty, which he called “God’s infrastructure,” as well as spend dollars to educate workers.
Tester also said he support stronger regulations for the financial sector, which he compared to a football playoff game with no referees.
“Without effective regulations, unchecked greed will lead to chaos in the system,” he said.
Tester’s speech brought the senator to his political roots: He first ran for the state Senate in 1998 and served four sessions there.
