House was leaving a temporary job agency near Kmart when he saw the man suspected of robbing the Missoula Federal Credit Union sitting in a turquoise pickup truck on Dore Lane. What caught House's attention was the way the man ripped a ski mask off his head and raced away.
“He went through the back of Kmart, past the school, took a left and went straight up Gharrett,” House said. “No one else was in the car. He was going about 40 (mph) up the hill.”
House told one of the officers what he'd seen and where the suspect was heading. The tip helped focus the police dragnet on the escape route, officers told the Missoulian. House later accompanied a police detective to show the route the suspect took.
What House hadn't seen was the suspect's weapon, believed to be a .30-30 rifle. The man was already in his truck when House noticed him.
“I'm glad I didn't follow him all the way, if he had a gun,” House said. “I just moved here. I'm just looking for a job.”
