ART CALLS

The Missoula Art Museum is now accepting submissions for the 5th Artini Auction: Wear Oh Ware. In the spirit of Artini, this year’s auction will once again have a fresh style and unique format. The Wear Oh Ware auction will feature handmade art objects; the twist is that it all be functional – wearables to wares – toys, furniture, teapots. The only limitation is the functional expression of you. One-of-a-kind or multiples will be considered as long as they are handmade by you. The works in Ware Oh Ware will be exhibited in the Carnegie Galleries as part of The 2010 Benefit Art Auction Exhibition, featuring all the work from the 38th Benefit Art Auction as well. On Artini Thursday, Feb. 18, MAM will host a special artist reception and the Wear Oh Ware live auction with hors d’oeuvres, live music and cash bar. The 2010 Art Auction Exhibition will be on view that evening with pre-bidding taken throughout the festivities. Deadline for submissions is Dec. 1. Notification will be e-mailed by Dec. 14. You may submit up to two works for consideration, and up to two images of each work. Do not send more than four total images. Attach your images in JPG format only to your e-mail, and label the files with your last name and the title of the work. For example: In the body of the email include name, address and phone, and for each work submitted title, medium, size, date of execution, value, donation (100 percent, 75 percent or 50 percent; taken from final sale price). Also include a brief biography – where you are from and your education/background, what you currently do – and artist statement. Keep each to 250 words or fewer. E-mail your submission to John Calsbeek at johnc@missoulaartmuseum.org with the subject “Artini Auction Submission.”

Call for entries for the 33rd International Wildlife Film Festival. Deadline for entries is Jan. 30, 2010. Late entries accepted Jan. 31 to Feb. 12, 2010, and require a late entry fee of 20 percent. The two-month judging process begins in February and filmmakers are notified via e-mail as to the status of their films’ progress through this intensive process. If you are interested in being considered as a final judge, contact iwff@wildlifefilms.org. Final judging is March 23-29. We are not able to underwrite airfare to Missoula, but we do provide hosted lodging and cover all expenses once here. A complimentary delegate pass is also provided to final judges who return to attend the festival in May. If you are in Montana and would like to be a preliminary judge, e-mail iwff@wildlifefilms.org or margaret@wildlifefilms.org. For more information, call 728-9380. E-mail iwff@wildlifefilms.org to receive an entry/registration packet in the mail. See entry guidelines, category descriptions and entry fees, plus festival highlights at www.wildlifefilms.org.

The Historical Museum at Fort Missoula is currently researching the Big Burn of 1910 for an exhibit that is scheduled to open in March 2010 to commemorate the centennial of this transformative fire. If you have memories, photographs, diaries or artifacts from the Big Burn, staff at the Historical Museum would love to talk. Call executive director Bob Brown at 728-3476.
