Effective Friday, September 21, 2007, the Lewis and Clark National Forest is opening all areas previously closed due to fire activity on the Rocky Mountain Ranger District. A few trails will remain closed to stock and motorized travel, and some restrictions on camping will remain in specific areas.

Firefighters are getting ready to pack their gear and head for home more than six weeks after lightning set off the 36,388-acre Jocko Lakes Fire eight miles west of Seeley Lake, Montana.

Fire restrictions lifted in north central Montana

Fire restrictions have been lifted on public lands within and immediately adjacent to the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex in north-central Montana. The Flathead, Lewis and Clark, Helena, and Lolo National Forests have lifted fire restrictions on all National Forest lands, with the exception of the non-wilderness portion of the Seeley Lake Ranger District on the Lolo National Forest, and the Lincoln Ranger District of the Helena National Forest.

Fire activity remained minimal yesterday and there was moisture on all fires, from lighter amounts on the western side to steady precipitation on the east side.

Firefighters are patrolling and putting out hotspots today. On the Pattengail Creek Fire a grader will be finishing the rehabilitation work on the contingency fire line. Incident Commander Dave Henson and his management team are headquartered at Wisdom.

Conger Creek Wildland Fire Update

With cloud cover and some light rain, the fire displayed little spread again yesterday. Officials reported about 1/4 inch of rain yesterday evening/night in the fire area.

Yesterday, cloud cover was over the fire early which kept fire activity low. Only traces of rain were reported on the fire.

Jocko Lakes - Helicopter Support Replaced By Mother Nature!

Mother Nature moved in with late afternoon showers over the past two days and effectively replaced the need for helicopters to drop water on hot spots. There is an excellent chance the projected full containment date of October 1st will be met based on the current and forecasted weather conditions and the assigned resources on the fire. For now the current containment of the 36,388-acre Jocko Lakes Fire remains at 95%.

Portions of Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex and Other Public Lands Opening in Time for Hunting Seasons

Choteau, MT - At 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2007, the Bob Marshall Complex Ranger Districts, the Bureau of Land Management and Region Four of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks opened a number of areas that had been previously closed due to the Ahorn, Amphitheatre, Calbick, Conger Creek, Corporal, Felix, Fool Creek, Railley Mountain, Skyland, Table Mountain, Turtlehead and other smaller fires.
