AARP Wellness Tour - Free health screenings will be offered at Missoula's two Walgreens stores this week. The screenings for adults will take place in AARP's Wellness Tour bus. They include tests for cholesterol levels, blood pressure, bone density, glucose levels, waist circumference and body mass index. Results are instant and participants who get screened get a free one-year AARP membership. The locations and times are noon to 6 p.m. Thursday at 2527 N. Reserve St. and noon to 6 p.m. Friday at 2100 Brooks St.

Brain Injury social - The Missoula Brain Injury Support Group will hold its annual picnic July 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Franklin Park, corner of Kemp and 10th Street. Breast cancer survivor water fitness - Community Medical Center offers a warm-water pool class for breast cancer survivors to reduce lymphedema, improve general flexibility and strength, and increase endurance and circulation. Cancer programs - Call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345 for more information about these programs available in all Montana communities:

• "Road to Recovery" provides free transportation for cancer patients to their treatments and home again.

• "Reach to Recovery" offers visits by trained breast cancer survivor volunteers with newly diagnosed breast cancer patients.

• "Look Good Feel Better" teaches female cancer patients beauty techniques to enhance their appearance and self-image during chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Trained cosmetologists lead the free group sessions.

Cancer Center support group - Meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Montana Cancer Center, 500 W. Broadway, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Meetings are free and open to those in all phases of testing, treatment and follow-up for cancer, as well as family and friends. Chronic wound care - St. Patrick Hospital's Outpatient Wound Care Center at 500 W. Broadway specializes in treating non-healing wounds caused by diabetes, poor circulation, pressure or surgery. Self-referrals are welcome. Call 329-5736.

CPR/first aid classes - A Mother's Embrace, LLC, is offering infant and child CPR and first aid classes the third Sunday of every month at 1 p.m. at Happy Mama, 736-A S. First St. W. • Splash Montana after-hours adult swims on July 31, July 27 and Aug. 10 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Ride the slides, float the Lazy River, cross the Log Walk.

• Aquacize! Water Fitness is a drop-in program designed for all fitness levels to increase flexibility, build core strength and improve cardio fitness. No pre-registration required, regular admission fees. Purchase a 30-swim punch card or annual pass and save 25-55 percent. • Lap swimming is offered at both pools. Currents lap lanes available 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Splash Montana 50-meter or 25-yard lap lanes available 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends.

Diabetes support - The following support groups and programs are available:

• Missoula Indian Center provides on-site blood sugar testing with a glucose monitor and also offers hemoglobin A1C testing by appointment only. For more information call Yvonne at 829-9515, Ext. 121.

• Self-management classes at St. Patrick Hospital include individual appointments with a nurse and nutritionist. The classes are covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurers. Payment plans and scholarships are available to those who qualify. St. Pat's also offers free diabetes glucose screening (overnight fast required), pre-diabetes prevention counseling, metabolic syndrome counseling, certified nurse diabetic educator visits for assessment and recommendation, a fitness center and water exercises classes. • Community Medical Center's Diabetes Management Program offers individual and group sessions to help you manage your diabetes and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Sessions are led by a nurse and dietitian certified in diabetes education. Physician referral required. Call 327-4325.

• Community Medical Center also offers a pool class designed by a physical therapist for adults with diabetes to increase their level of activity in a fun and relaxed group setting. Call 327-4257 for more information.

Emphysema support - EFFORTS (Emphysema Foundation For Our Right to Survive) is an online, nonprofit support/advocacy group for people with COPD/emphysema. Log on to www.emphysema.net to learn more about the disease and how to live with it.

First aid, CPR classes - 8th Element CPR is offering Child and Infant First Aid and CPR classes the second Saturday of every month at 4 p.m. at The Birth Center, 1211 S. Reserve St. The cost is $60 and includes two-year certification through Emergency First Response. Foot Care Program - St. Patrick Hospital and Health Sciences Center offers a Foot Care Program the first Monday of the month, excluding holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Broadway Building Duran Learning Center. Registered and licensed practical nurses provide a general assessment of the legs and feet, education about foot health, and simple treatment including soaking, buffing, nail cutting, massage and moisturizing. The cost is $26 for the first visit, which includes a foot kit, and then $20 for following visits. Gift certificates are available. Free health exams - Women ages 50 to 64 who have no health insurance or insurance that will not pay for breast and cervical health exams, and who meet the necessary income guidelines, can receive free exams through the Partnership Health Center's Breast and Cervical Health Project. Health Habits - The fitness and massage center located at 2825 Stockyard Road, No. E2, offers the following classes: kickboxing on Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 p.m.; cardio-strength on Monday and Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.; and indoor cycling on Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30 a.m. Call 240-4297 for more information.

Health Insurance Assistance Service - Montana cancer patients can call the American Cancer Society's 24-hour toll-free number to be connected to a health insurance specialist to ask about coverage and insurance programs specific to the state. The number is 1-800-ACS-2345.
