Baucus’ solution not the answer

Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., is well on his way to changing the best health care system in the world. The Congressional Budge Office gave Baucus and the Senate Finance Committee a thumbs-up on their health care plan. Baucus says the public should not read it because they would not understand the plan.

Many senators feel the Democratic health care plan will be disastrous and will cost Americans billions if not trillions of dollars in new taxes.

Sen. Lamar Alexander, R. Tenn., said the Baucus plan cuts Medicare, raises taxes and increases insurance premiums for tens of millions of Americans. He said the Senate needs to see the actual bill and know its exact wording before the Senate could begin a lengthy debate on whether it is the right direction for our country.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said this Finance Committee proposal will never be seen on the Senate floor. He said the real bill will be written by Democratic leaders in a closed-to-the-public conference somewhere in the capitol. He said the real bill will be another 1,000-page, trillion-dollar experiment that vastly expands the role of the federal government.

Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, said the individual mandate "will increase the price of health insurance up to 95 percent for most small business workers, the self-employed, early retirees and millions of Americans who buy their own health insurance. It will lead to rations as well as give the Secretary of Health and Human Services the ability to deny treatment to citizens."

Wendy Wright also said this health care plan will not protect life. It will send massive federal subsidies for elective abortions.

I can see why Baucus does not want anyone to read his bill. Or is it just a plan?
