BILLINGS - The Billings West boys' golf team is well on its way to a fourth straight team title after Tuesday's first round of play at the State AA tournament at Yellowstone Country Club.

The Golden Bears saw their top four competitors place among the top five individuals as each shot rounds in the 70s, leading West to a team total of 299. Bozeman is tied with Kalispell Glacier in second at 333, followed by Billings Skyview at 337 and Billings Senior with 338.

Brian Muller's round of even-par 72 has him one stroke up on West teammate Brandon McIver, who shot a 73. Justin Newton of Glacier sits alone in third at 76, one stroke better than Golden Bear teammates Jake Hedge and Mac Keating, who each shot 77s.

Bozeman leads the girls' team race after finishing with a combined score of 385. Billings Senior and defending champion Great Falls Russell are deadlocked in second at 394, while Missoula Hellgate (396) and Kalispell Glacier (402) round out the top five.

Sarah Mutch from Billings Senior sits tied atop the individual leaderboard with Butte's Ashleigh Ogolin after each shot rounds of 89. Haley Swan from West and Elsie Satterfield from Glacier each shot 91s, while Russell's Taisha Bell and Cali Toth from Kalispell Flathead both came in at 92.

The tournament is scheduled to conclude Wednesday with an 18-hole round at Lake Hills Golf Course.
