DRUMMOND - Neil Mannix ran 10 times for 108 yards and two touchdowns and threw for another as No. 2 Drummond downed Joliet 41-12 in a Class C football quarterfinal Saturday.

The Trojans (9-0) advanced to a semifinal matchup at home against third-ranked Centerville on Saturday at 1 p.m. In their quarterfinal, the Miners got a late touchdown to defeat Twin Bridges 32-26 at home.

After Mannix opened the scoring with a 65-yard touchdown run, the J-Hawks got within 7-6 early in the second on a 14-yard TD jaunt by Jess Graber.

"Give them credit," said Drummond coach Jim Oberweiser. "They have a tough defensive ballclub and they did a nice job and we didn't execute as well as I would have liked to begin."

Drummond took some momentum and a 20-6 lead into halftime after Brian Mannix scored on a 4-yard run and Neil Mannix hit Nate Bignell from 20 yards out just before intermission.

"It most certainly could have been 13-13 or whatever, but instead we go in 20-6," Oberweiser said. "But Neil made a great pass at the end of the second quarter and that was huge."

Brian Mannix ran for 103 yards and made 16 tackles while teammate Eric Bergerson had two interceptions and Connor Verlanic picked off another pass.

Graber ran for two touchdowns as Joliet closed the season at 6-3.
